Sunderland Home is Rated Good by the Care Quality Commission
Archers Park in Sunderland has received a positive Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which records the home as overall GOOD. The rating follows on from the previous ‘Good’ rating and introduction of new Care Home Manager Sharon Easterbrook Smith, who joined the home in the Summer.
Representatives from CQC undertook an unannounced visit to the home on 2nd October 2018, and the report has rated the home good across all five key areas for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The home provides residential care for up to 40 older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The report gave positive feedback for the staff, saying that residents ‘were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible’.
The report also highlighted the robust recruitment and management processes, particularly the use of the Electronic Medication Administration Record (EMAR), as well as the range of activities on offer for residents.
Ratings are given based on observations of the home by the unannounced CQC team, and on conversations with staff, residents and their relatives. The report is part of CQC's programme of inspections.
Home Manager Sharon Easterbrook Smith commented; “We are delighted to receive yet another Good rating from the CQC. The staff all work extremely hard to ensure residents live vibrant lives and have plenty of choice in what they do, which is reflected in the lovely comments found in the report.
“We will be celebrating with staff and residents, but this certainly doesn’t mean we will become complacent.”
Tracey Tomlinson, Group Head of Sales and Marketing at Orchard Care Homes, commented “What a fantastic and well-deserved result for the team at Archers Park. There has been a real effort to continue the high standard of care since the previous manager retired and I’m delighted to see their hard work has been rewarded.”
The home has a diverse and busy activity programme, with regular events in the home.
