Chinese New Year Brings Celebrations at Rotherham and Merseyside Homes
As the year of the Rooster commences, many of our homes celebrated Chinese New Year with a variety of activities. Residents at Cherry Trees in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, decorated the home with balloons and Chinese bunting to mark the start of the New Year. Residents in the home each received a fortune cookie and an envelope with their name translated in Chinese. Sharron Whaley, Home Manager, said “It was really nice to do something a bit different and learn about a different culture. Everyone enjoyed the celebrations.” St Helens Hall & Lodge in Merseyside celebrated the New Year with a Chinese taster session, introducing residents to a variety of foods they had never tasted before. These included spring rolls, Chinese dumplings and prawn crackers. Many of the residents had not anticipated how much they would enjoy the food and learning about different cuisines. The residents also lent a hand at making their own Chinese lanterns. Each year of the Chinese calendar is characterised by one of twelve animals, which represent the personalities and characteristics of people born in that year. Here are a few facts about the year of the Rooster: People born under the year of the Rooster are said to be independent, honest, confident and punctual but can be sensitive in social situations. A Rooster’s lucky numbers are 5, 7 and 8. Years of the Rooster have previously included 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005 and now 2017.
