A new BBC portfolio of nostalgic images, audio and video clips from the past, offers support to those with dementia. The BBC has launched a new archive of nostalgic photographs, audio and video clips, in conjunction with Dundee University, the University of St Andrews and the Alzheimer’s Society. The aim is to uncover and develop memories to help those with dementia.  After a pilot study in 2016, the BBC has confirmed the library of media will permanently be available to those with dementia, their family and carers, as a way of triggering conversation and reminiscence. During the trial, three-quarters of the 17,000 people who used the archive reported that it brought back past memories which had been forgotten. The service, which is called BBC RemArc, contains around 1,500 items and showcases video clips, audio clips and images from the 1930s to the 2000s.The content can be tailored to the viewer, with the option to select media from a particular decade or theme. Audio and video clips include everyday scenes from the past, including street views, school playgrounds and home life. Coverage from significant events of the past is also available, including the Queen’s Coronation, speeches from Margaret Thatcher, the Moon Landings and the Olympic Games.
