At the heart of every home is a dynamic and varied activity programme available to all residents, and residents at Thornton Hall & Lodge in Merseyside, have certainly been enjoying a fun-packed summer so far… Music fans in the home have been taking part in monthly musical activity sessions, hosted by specialist music therapy charity ‘Music in Mind’, designed to support those living with dementia in expressing themselves, as well as to promote mindfulness. Regular live performances from three different local entertainers have also been a hit, with repertoires ranging from jazz and swing, to wartime songs and old-time classics. And it isn’t just music fans who have been spoiled for choice, as sports fans enjoyed the Grand National, complete with homemade fascinators, as well as the World Cup, Formula One and the Tour de France. Residents have also taken part in a number of celebrations, including the Royal Wedding, complete with Afternoon Tea and a glass of Buck’s Fizz, and two milestone birthdays. Residents Clare and Flo, celebrated their 95th and 90th birthdays respectively, with both ladies enjoying a party in the home with friends and family, together with music, dancing, food and that all-important birthday cake. In addition to activities within the home, residents have also been benefitting from having access to a minibus every Monday, and have enjoyed trips within their local community, and further afield, such as to Formby, Southport, and Crosby Marina. Activity Coordinator Jade Russell comments, “With so much going on both inside and outside the home, there is something for everyone to enjoy, from music and sport, to arts and crafts. We have had a really full summer so far, and have certainly been making the most of the good weather!” To keep up to date with news from the home, follow us on Facebook and YouTube
