Our homes have been very busy this October, but the fun continues with the celebration of Halloween, which many of the homes embraced with themed activities and entertainers. Staff at Priestley Care Home in Batley, West Yorkshire, dressed up for Halloween and played reverse trick or treat on the residents, going from door to door within the home, delivering treats. The home was decorated for the occasion and a cake was donated by a local community member for all to enjoy. Meanwhile Shevington Court, in Merseyside, got their hands dirty carving pumpkins, which were then displayed around the home. Afterwards, Halloween-themed games were played including ‘stick the smile on the skeleton’. Lofthouse Grange & Lodge, situated outside of Leeds, also dressed up and took to the kitchen for some Halloween-themed baking and bun decorating, while York House in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, celebrated their annual Halloween party with an entertainer, who arrived at the home and sang Halloween themed songs to all the residents that took part. The staff and residents enjoyed all the activities. Susan Leonard, Activity Coordinator at York House, said “Lots of our residents love to sing, so the entertainer was perfect to get everyone up and dancing before the party began. It was a lovely celebration and the residents really enjoyed the baking and the pumpkin carving”.
