Celebrating World Creativity and Innovation Day

24 April 2024 News

This International Innovation and Creativity Day, we made sure our residents had an experience to remember. From colourful salt dough creations to vibrant 3D spring boards, lets take a peek at how some of our homes celebrated #WCID

At Green Park, creativity was in full bloom! Residents spent the morning crafting shapes from salt dough.

Armed with paintbrushes and a rainbow of colours, our residents transformed these beige forms into eye catching art pieces. Activity Co-ordinator Lisa said ‘The smiles on our residents faces were as bright as the paint on their hands!’.

Residents also got busy with another project: designing their own lightbulbs!

Using a variety of materials, like glitter, feathers and even sparkles, the lightbulbs really popped. While they decorated, they chatted about the history of the lightbulb and the other amazing inventions they are grateful for.

Over at Eaton Court, a little rain and wind weren’t going to dampen the spirit of our residents. They turned a gloomy day into a celebration of spring by creating a Spring Board. This delightful display of vibrant 3D flowers, made from all types of materials, would brighten up even the dullest of days.

Resident Sylvia couldn't wait to dive in. "I love getting creative," she said, with a smile as bright as the flowers she was painting. "It's the perfect way to spend a grey, miserable day like this!"

Following the theme of spring, Paisley Lodge residents, Dorothy,  Christine,  Lesley and Michael enjoyed a still life painting of some bright spring tulips. It wasn’t just about painting- it was about connection and friendship. They gathered round one table and had a good chat about some of their favourite ways to be creative, with Lesley enthusiastically telling us, ‘ Painting is my favourite!'

Isn’t it amazing how a simple art project can bring people together and spark meaningful conversations?

At Orchard, our goal is to keep our residents active and engaged, not just because it's fun but because it makes a tangible difference in their quality of life. Whether it's through arts and crafts, music, or exercise, we create opportunities for both mental and physical benefits. These activities boost cognitive function, spark creativity, and bring a sense of accomplishment and joy to our residents' lives.

We had a blast celebrating WCID, we cant wait for the next opportunity to bring our residents together for more creative fun!
